St Patrick’s night worries

In the run up to St. Patrick’s Day, Gardai have launched a campaign in relation to safety on the streets, which is aimed primarily at young people socialising at night.

Last year, in the Sligo/ Leitrim Garda Division, nine young people reported being assaulted on St. Patrick’s night, there were 12 public Order incidents and five reported thefts on the night.

Gardaí said their aim his year is to prevent these incidents occurring.

Young people are asked to take reasonable care at all times while out socialising, avoid excess intake of alcohol and ensure that they arrange a lift home.
