‘ Unfinished’ Calry estate not on list

WORKS APPEAR TO HAVE RESTARTED

- By PAUL DEERING

WORK appears to have restarted on an unfinished housing estate in the Calry area.

However, finding out information on the status of the estate, which is close to another, Glenard in the same area, has proven problematic. The County Council has no information to relate on the estate which comprises around ten to twelve dwellings, most of which have their windows boarded up. In recent times there has been some activity on sight, a van or two with indictions that internal work is being done on the properties.

But it is quite clear the estate is far from complete with no roads, paving or street lighting present while there is also clearly spaces left for further house building which hasn’t started yet. The council in dealing with a query on the status of the estate makes reference to the latest national survey carried out by the Housing Agency of unfinished housing developments at the end of December 2015. Then, there were 25 estates listed in County Sligo as being ‘ unfinished’. However, this Calry scheme is nowhere to be found on the list despite clearly outstanding work to be done. Of these 25 listed estates, only two schemes are listed in Sligo town, Swan Point which is adjacent to the Glasshouse Hotel and Aylesbury Park on the Strandhill Road.

Other schemes are made up of various housing and partment developments around the county including Dorrin’s Strand in Strandhill but which a meeting of the County Council heard last week in a reply to a motion from Cllr Declan Bree was almost completed and was hoped to recommend that it be taken in charge by the end of this year.
