Rise in premium to € 780 led to driver not renewing insurance Court told

A driver told Sligo District Court that when his insurance jumped from € 360 to € 780 he didn’t renew the policy stupidly drove.

Keith Smiley ( 39) of 45 St Joseph’s Terrace admitted driving without inusrance on August 16th last at Devins Drive.

He told the court he had insurance for 14 years up to that point. He had a policy now which cost € 720 and which he was paying in monthly instalment­s.

The defendant was represente­d by Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor. At the same court, Mauro Salviato of Oakfield Manor, Kinlough was fined € 40 for crossing a single continuous white line at Drumcliffe North on July 12th last.

The defendant said he had overtaken a slow vehicle which had moved into the hard shoulder and there was no oncoming traffic.

He said he forget to pay the fixed penalty charge notice and had moved house.

Also at Sligo Court, Cheryl Holder of Ballymote Road, Tubbercurr­y was given the benefit of the Probation Act after she admitted stealing groceries and electrical items from Tesco on February 13th 2016.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor ( defending) said the defendant was in financial difficulti­es at the time.
