Learning something new daily while volunteering
TO highlight volunteerism in Sligo during our year as European Volunteer Capital 2017, Rebecca Kennedy talks to Daniel Bannon, a volunteer at The Model.
“I choose to volunteer in The Model because when I finished my degree in Music technology in Tralee, I was looking to help out in an arts centre where I could make use of the theatre. Spending time at The Model presented the opportunity to learn new skills, to get practical experience and to meet like- minded people.”
Daniel tells The Sligo Champion about the fast- paced work environment at The Model. “What I enjoy about volunteering at The Model is that the team here is made up of really good people. I learn something new everyday so I get a lot out of it.
“My favourite memory working at The Model so far was doing the sound engineering for ‘ Beneath the Air’, last October. That was the first gig I worked on at The Model and after it was finished I had a great buzz, it felt really exciting.
“I knew a lot of the theory about sound engineering from my degree but having the opportunity to apply that in a practical sense meant that I gained some really hands on experience too.“
“I will continue to volunteer in The Model and I would recommend volunteering here to anyone remotely interested in the Arts. You meet so many new people and it’s an opportunity to network and to get involved in some brilliant creative projects“
