Sligo Autism Services

-

Dear Sir,

I would like to respond to the recent stories regarding care from the Sligo Autism Services. l have a daughter who receives care from this service and has done for the last nine years.

The staff work tirelessly to advocate on behalf of my daughter.

The service is very well run under the manager Mary Durcan who provides a caring human touch so sadly lacking in other care providers.

Each staff member has to manage a huge case load and the numbers of children requiring care have outgrown the availability of staff.

I feel that despite the cutbacks in social care and lack of good quality psychological services, the autism service has been of great support to my family.

They are always at the end of a phone, willing to listen, but most importantly, to give a caring voice in the lonely world of caring for a child with autism is priceless. Name and address withheld.
