Insight into sustainable future at IT
A fascinating insight into an alternative sustainable future will take place at IT Sligo at the end of the month.
Hosted by I. T. Sligo Event Management students, Down to Earth is a seminar which will feature four guest speakers who will each share their own perspectives and experiences of what an alternative sustainable life entails.
The speakers are Mark Boyle, Davie Philip, Féile Butler and Hans Wieland.
Boyle, ‘ the moneyless man’ lived off- the- grid without money for almost three years, while Philip hails from from Cloughjordan Eco- Village, an innovative new community which minimises its ecological impacts.
They will share the floor as they speak about their contrasting views and experiences.
Féile Butler from Mud and Wood will explain the uses of natural earthen materials as an alternative method to building houses. Through the use of cob, a mix of straw and clay, Féile and her husband built a lowcost, award winning sustainable home.
Hans Wieland of the Organic Centre will speak about organic matters and a holistic approach to farming and food production. The centre, an ecologically designed building with a grass roof, was a deserving winner of the An Taisce award for ‘ most appropriate building located in the countryside’.
Down to Earth hopes to bring people from various backgrounds ( both guest speakers and audience) together to provide a comprehensive and interesting view on the endless possibilities and importance of sustainable living.
The event takes place at IT Sligo’s Aurivo Auditorium on Tuesday 28th March 2017, starting at 11am and finishing at 1pm. Free admission tickets must be booked through www. eventbrite. ie.
