Transfer of land delayed at Holy Family School

-

ATTEMPTS by the Council to give land to the Holy Family National School in Tubbercurry for a new set down area and parking are being stalled.

The Council has already agreed to give an area of land to the school for the parking area.

Director of Services Bartley Gavin told members that the Council could not transfer the lands until they knew who to transfer them to.

The Marist Sisters who hold the freehold of the site are selling their land in Tubbercurry.

“Hence the present arrangement in which ownership of the school property is to be held in the future is in the process of changing,” said Mr Gavin.

He said talks were ongoing between the school and the their patron, the diocese, as to who should hold the land the Council is seeking to transfer to the school.

“As of March 3rd, the Council have not been responded to on this precise matter,” said Mr Gavin.

The Council may have to transfer the lands to the diocese, and this may require Council approval once again.

“Until the school side advise clearly of how they wish to proceed there is no more can be done from the Council side to advance transfer of title,” he said.

Councillor Margaret Gormley had asked the Council to prioritise the transfer of lands.

“It’s after 3pm now and I guarantee you it is mayhem outside that school right now,” said Cllr Paul Taylor in support of her motion.

“Our solicitor has written to the school’s solicitor asking them to identify who the land is owned by - that’s what’s holding things up,” said Mr Gavin.

Cllr Gormley asked him to get back to the school solicitor.

“I’ve no blame on Sligo County Council. It was held up on the other side. But time is passing and the dangers are there,” she warned.
