Collooney wants action on roads

-

THE Council needs to do something “sooner rather than later” in Collooney to slow down speeding traffic before someone gets killed.

That was the warning from Cllr Thomas Healy who called on the Council to put traffic calming measures in place on the Barrack Road and the Knockbeg Road to slow down traffic.

“We hear that funding can only be got if there was a number of accidents on it or a fatality. We don’t want to wait for a child to be killed or very badly injured. The people of Collooney along with myself want something done now,” he said.

He also pointed to a lack of infrastructure on the Knockbeg Road, a lack of lighting and speeding traffic from the N17.

Senior Engineer Tom Brennan said the Council would look at accident figures and if accidents have occurred funding could be sought under the 2018 Safety Improvement Works programme.
