Ballymote library introduces new management system

-

The new library management system introduced to Sligo’s libraries last week will give service users access to millions of books.

All of the country’s libraries are available through this system, for anyone with a membershup to a library.

Louise McGrath, librarian at Ballymote Community Library explains: “We are now part of Libraries Ireland as of last week. What that means for you is that we now have access to the stock of around 350 libraries and we estimate that’s around four million books that would come twice a week into the library,” she explained in a video posted on the library’s Facebook page.

“You have two ways of doing it, you can do them at home or you can go to Sligo Libraries and use your card and pin number.

“If you don’t have a pin number then give us a call or call into the library.

“The great thing about this is that you can have access to CDs, DVDs, so you’re sitting at home on a Sunday night thinking that you wouldn’t mind wattching a DVD next week, or I wonder if my favourite author’s book is out that I’m looking for so you can do all of that from home.

She continued: “You can renew all your books as well from home.

“We’re extremely excited about it so if you come in we can show you how to do it.”

Cathaoirleach of Sligo County Council Hubert Keaney said: “The new system will be will be an invaluable resource for students and those doing any kind of research.

“For recreational readers, the strengths of the public library service in terms of the depth of the stock will make it easier for those seeking items by their favourite authors that may not be available because they are out of print.”
