MANOR Rangers’ Muireann Devanney got her second Internatio­nal start for the Republic of Ireland at the weekend.

The St Clares Comprehens­ive student, pictured inset, was part of the U15s who capturedp the John Read Cup after defeating g England 2- 1 on Sunday in the AUL Complex.

Muireann has been making her club extremely proud of her achievemen­ts, with a good crowd wd from the area going along to supportrt the teenteenag­er.

Ireland secured victory over a fantastic English outfit to claim the John Read Cup for the first time in its history.

The late winner came courtesy of substitute Sophie Liston ( Scoil Mhuire agus Ide, Newcastle West) right on the full time mark. The game seemed to be destined for penalties as Jess Brown’s equaliser was forced home six minutes from time which cancelledc­ancelle out Zara Foley’sFoley effort on 23 minutes butbu the Irish foughtfo back to claim a historic win overv reigning BobBo Docherty CupCu Champions ons England. The signs are good as twotw wins from two will ensure a new found confidence in the squad ahead of the Internatio­nal tournament which is taking place in the AUL Complex on April 9th to 12th with the side in a trial session later this month on March 25th.
