Barriers needed at Geevagh
ROADSIDE barriers are urgently needed along a stretch of road near Geevagh according to councillor Chris MacManus.
He made the call after the latest accident on the R284 at Carrownadargney, Geevagh which saw a vehicle going off the road into a deep ditch.
He said: “This stretch of road has been the scene again of another car leaving the road and veering into a steep roadside ditch.
“Miraculously, despite how the vehicle ended up, no one was hurt. This, however, is just another in a series of incidents on this part of the regional road at Carrownadargney.
“Locals are concerned about the regularity of vehicles having to be pulled out of the deep ditches here.
“The dangers are compounded after any continuous downfall of rain, when the ditches become flooded for several days, as happened on this occasion. It is my intention to raise this at the next meeting of Sligo County Council and to seek the provision of roadside barriers or some other similar alternative. We cannot wait until a tragedy occurs before taking much needed action.”
