Indoor Gaelic is a big hit

THE first ever Pella Indoor Gaelic Football tournament in Sligo took place in the hall of Sligo Tennis Club recently. The tournament was an u12 competitio­n and consisted of eight Sligo- based teams. The teams were St John’s, Calry/ St. Joseph’s, Drumcliffe Rosses Point, St Pat’s and two teams each from St Molaise Gaels and Coolera/ Strandhill. After two extremely well contested groups, the results saw St John’s top group 1 on score difference ahead of Drumcliffe Rosses Point who advanced to the semi finals in second. Calry/ St. Joseph’s topped Group 2 on ahead of 2nd placed St Molaise Gaels. However the semi- finals proved to turn the form books upside down as both group runners up won their games to advance to the final. To prove how evenly contested the finals were was highlighte­d by the fact that there was no more than one score between any of the game. The final of the tournament did justice to the very high standard of skill and drama on show all day as Drumcliffe Rosses Point overcame St. Molaise Gaels 10- 8. The winning score inside the final minute of play. The presentati­on of the JK Pella Trophy was made to the winning captain of Drumcliffe Rosses Point Rian O’Callaghan.
