ON Friday last, St Patrick’s Day saw our 2017 men’s Captain Mr Ray oGrady hitting his Captains Drive to officially start his tenure as Captain for the year ahead. A large crowd came out to support our 2017 Captains Ray and Ann on their day and after both creamed it straight down the middle- right.
After the Drive in everyone joined them in the bar for refreshments and food afterwards. In his first duty as Captain Ray expressed his thanks to everyone at the resort and club for the opportunity to represent Castledargan as their Captain for the year and vowed to continue on from all the hard work and effort from which he put in as vice captain. Everyone at the men’s council and members would like to wish Captain Ray a successful and enjoyable year ahead and have no doubt Ray will represent our club in the best way possible.
Ray in his speech also thanked his family, especially his wife Leona and their daughter Sadhbh for their support. Captain Ray thanked outgoing Captain Niall for his work and help last year and wished him well in his new role on council. The prizes for the Homeland sponsored winter league were presented to winners on the night with Fergal McLoughlin taking first in the A final. Niall Walsh was the winner of the B final. To finish Captain Ray wished his incoming Vice Captain Mr Paul McGonigle all the best for the year, which is echoed by members and council and wished all golfers an enjoyable and successful years golfing for 2017. The men’s club would also like to wish incoming Ladies Captain Mrs Ann Mullen and her Vice Captain Mrs Bridie Henry a successful year and hope they enjoy all it brings. FIXTURES THE years fixtures have being finalised and things kicks OFF on 1st April with our sponsor Top Part and is Open and on Sunday 2nd sponsored by Sligo Golf Academy. Up after that is qualifying for our cup competition starting with the Castledargan cup on 8/ 9 April, Darren Clarke Cup on 15/ 16 April and the fourball on 22/ 23 April. Ladies: St. Patrick’s Day saw the launch of the 2017 Golf Year at Castle Dargan by Captains Ray O Grady and Ann Mullen. The opening mixed scramble of the year was followed with impressive drives from both Captains and champagne toast to celebrate the distances. Refreshments, music and dancing continued in the Courtyard at Castle Dargan Hotel finishing off the day nicely. We wish Ray and Ann every success and enjoyment in their Captaincy for 2017. THE afternoon also included the presentation of Winter Competition Prizes. Well done to the winner Pauline Lennon and runners up Anita Carty and Loretto Brennan This competition has been kindly sponsored by Homeland since its inception and we thank them for their magnificent support over the years and look forward to our continued good relationship. The Captain’s Drive in raised € 360 for Sligo Cancer Support Centre. A sincere thanks to everybody who bought tickets and to those who sold the raffle tickets for the two lovely hampers.
