Trá na Geist ‘ a fun night to promote Irish language’
This year’s Trá na Geist, hosted by CCE Paddy Killoran, took place in Scoil Mhuire gan Small in Ballymote.
Teams, from various primary schools throughout the county, took part in this annual event, and along with parents, teachers enjoyed a great night’s fun through Irish.
CCE Paddy Killoran’s Irish Officer, Bríd McGrenaghan, who organised the event was particularly pleased with the turn out.
“It’s a fun and enjoyable night to promote our national language.
“While there is obviously competition among the school teams, it’s mainly about encouraging the children to use Irish, and giving them a positive experience with it, outside the school setting.”
Thanking every one for coming, Bríd especially thanked her CCÉ collegues, Mary Doddy and Mary O’Grady for their hard work in preparing the event and to Comhaltas Vice president, Michael Brennan for coming and supporting it.
She also praised quizmaster Tony Gallagher, for doing such a wonderful job delivering the questions.
Bríd thanked the O’Dowd Family for the perpetual trophy that the winning school gets to keep and display for a year.
She also expressed her appreciation to Delores Taheny, school principle in Ballymote for allowing them to host the event in the school.
“Bhí an bua ag Scoil Chnoc Mionna, tháinig Scoil An Pháirc Ard sa dara háit agus tháinig Scoil Réalt na Mara sa tríú háit.
“Ba mhaith le Craobh Paddy Killoran a mbuíochas a ghabháil leis na scoileanna uilig atá linn gach bliain agus na scoileanna a bhí páirteach don chéad uair i mbliana. Táimid ag súil gach scoil a fhéiceáil arís an bhliain seo chugainn.”
“I couldn’t finish without thanking our sponsors on the evening, All Seasons Catering. Over the years both Tim Mulcahy and Dave Mitchell have been very generous to us, providing us with the prizes for the winning teams and organizing the tea and biscuits, and refreshments for the children. We are very grateful for their continued support,”
Bríd concluded by thanking all the visiting teachers and parents for making the event such a success and looked forward to seeing them all again next year.
