‘ New Friday hours will increase family engagement’

-

FOUR of Sligo town’s secondary schools will be finishing at 1.20pm every Friday from September 2017.

Principal of Summerhill College, Paul Keogh, says an earlier finish on a Friday will allow families to enjoy more quality time together:

“From the research carried out by our staff it was felt that the half day on a Friday would mean that our students would have the opportunity to complete any homework, research and revision. A number of schools in Dublin and the east noted that at a local level there has been an increase of family engagement in clubs and community activities.

We already have an established supervised after schools study programme in place here in Summerhill which will continue to be available to all students on Fridays after school.”
