Concern at condition of ramps
THE deterioration of the condition of a number of speed ramps in the Rathbraughan area of Sligo has caused widespread concern amongst residents
Councillor Thomas Healy said: “Speed ramps are very beneficial as one of a range of options to enhance road safety and to encourage adherence to speed limits in residential areas.
“However, like everything else, speed ramps need maintenance as the edges wear and they become higher and more abrasive.
“Residents in the Avondale and Old Cartron Estates have both outlined to me their concerns with the condition of the ramps serving their estates.
“The potential for damage to vehicles is now seen as very high.
“In addition I have spoken with some of the emergency services that use this route for hospital access, patients on stretchers with potential serious spinal injuries suffer significant discomfort when going over these ramps.”
The Council, said Cllr Healy has agreed to carry out repair and refurbishment works to these and other ramps in Sligo in the coming months.
“Road safety is a collaborative process and it is vital that the Council maintains the trust and cooperation of the public in keeping our roads as safe as possible for our communities,” added Cllr Healy.
