A man who drove his boss’s jeep which wasn’t taxed has been fined ¤ 300.

John Feeney ( 54) of Greenlands, Rosses Point, told Tubbercurry District Court that the jeep he was stopped driving in at Laveybeg, Charlestown on July 1st last year had been sold by him to a lady he worked for some three weeks earlier.

“She hadn’t taxed it. I was dropping her to Knock airport” he said, as she lived in London. The court heard the jeep had been taxed up to December 2015. Feeney said it wasn’t taxed between January and July 2016 as he was selling it and it was “just sitting at the house.” Fining Feeney, Judge Kilrane said the tax for that jeep for six months was about ¤ 700 which was a “significant loss of revenue” to the State.
