Martin was stabbed, an Inquest told

-

WELL- KNOWN Sligo musician Martin Kivlehan died from two stab wounds to his neck, an inquest into his death was told.

The jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing in the case of Martin ( Matt) Kivlehan ( 59), who was found dead at his home at New Apartments, Holborn Street arounjd 1.20pm on August 3rd 2015.

The Inquest before coroner Eamon McGowan and a jury at Sligo Courthouse was told two people have been charged in connection with the death of Mr Kivlehan and a trial had been set for November at the central Criminal Court in Dublin.

Christopher Kivlehan found the body of his brother, Martin on the floor of his home. A postmortem found evidence of two stab wounds to the neck, one to the right side and one on the left. A knife was “resting on the right collarbone area” . and the deceased’s hand was over the knife but it “was not actually in his hand”. There were no defensive type injuries Mr Kivlehan would have died rapidly due to blood loss. The jury returned a verdict of unlawful killing. Mr MacGowan said it was not up to the coroner’s court to apportion blame but he said he hoped the ruling would bring some satisfaction to the Kivlehan family given society had found that Martin was unlawfully killed.
