Disturbance at hotel
A 28 year old man who caused a disturbance at a hotel was told he’d need to watch his step or he would end up in prison.
The warning was given by Judge Kevin Kilrane to Francis Tighe of Iver Gael, Cortober, Carrick- on- Shannon who admitted an offence under the Public Order Act at the Radisson Blu Hotel on May 8th 2014.
Inspector Donal Sweeney told the court that Gardaí received a report of a man having a row with a woman at the hotel. She subsequently didn’t make a complaint.
When Gardaí arrived, the defendant was directed to leave. He was very intoxicated and he said he was waiting on his father to bring him home.
Gardaí got a second call to go to the hotel and they arrived at 4.15am and saw the defendant causing a disturbance outside.
Tighe had previous convictions under the Public Order Act.
Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor ( defending) pleaded that the defendant had an argument with his girlfriend and contact was made with his father who was coming in from Boyle to collect him.
Judge Kilrane said the defendant had “a bit of a history.”
Tighe told the court he hadn’t drank since the incident. He realised he was getting into trouble when he was drinking.
Judge Kilrane asked that the defendant’s previous convictions be read out again by the Inspector, one of which was for an assault where a prison term was imposed.
Tighe said this was appealed and was subsequently suspended. He had been in Australia for awhile. He didn’t get into trouble there.
“I suggest the reason is that you were treated too leniently here” - Judge. “Maybe that could be it” - defendant. He added: “I seem to always get into trouble when I’m around here.”
He said he was waiting on a call to go to England for work.
“Watch your step or you are going to prison,” said Judge Kilrane who fined the defendant € 300.
