Hit parked car and drove off

A driver who drove off after colliding with a parked car has been fined € 300.

Dylan Feeney ( 22) of Maugheraboy Estate was fined the sum for failing to remain at scene of an accident at The Square, Collooney.

Damage was done to the passenger side of the car, the court was told.

CCTV footage of the incident was viewed by Gardaí and the defendant could be seen reversing at speed before colliding with the car and then driving off. He did not have any previous convictions.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor ( defending) said the defendant had panicked and drove home. His insurance was covering the damage caused.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said the incident occurred at around 9.04pm. There was no indication where the defendant was coming from he told Judge Kevin Kilrane.

The Judge said it wasn’t a nice thing to do, to cause an impact and to keep going. This can be quite upsetting for a motorist to come back to their car and seeing this, he said.
