A 28 year old man will be sentenced at Sligo Circuit Court on Friday after he pleaded guilty to a series of charges relating to theft from cars and damage.

David Moran, who is currently serving a prison term, admitted a charge of burglary at Heatherview on January 27th 2016 and with damaging the door of a car at Greenfort on the same date. He further pleaded guilty to the theft of a torch from a car parked outside the same house.

Moran also admitted damaging a door of another car at Greenfort on January 27th and the theft of a USB memory stick frm the car.

Moran further pleaded guilty to the unauthorised taking of a Nissan Qashqai at Heatherview on the same date and setting it on fire at Tonafortes, Carraroe.

Mr Colm Smyth SC with Mr Joe Barnes BL instructed by McGovern Walsh Solicitors, said the defendant was coming to the end of a prison term and he was off all drugs apart from those prescribed for his Schizophrenia. Mr Smyth said both he and Mr Barnes were impressed by the progress the defendant had made since he had gone to prison and it was his intention to seek treatment on a residential addiction course. All of his crimes were related to his addiction. Judge Keenan Johnson said he would like to have a place set up for him so that he went from prison on his release directly to it. Moran was remanded in custody to this Friday for sentencing.
