Aughanagh’s big win over Calry

-

THE battle for Super League survival in The Great Southern Hotel Sligo, Super League took another twist with Aughanagh Celtic turning in a blistering display at home to Calry Bohs. Aughanagh Celtic were ahead after 45 minutes thanks to a fine goal from Thomas Cryan.

Second half goals from Kevin Henry and Cian Higgins saw Aughanagh move up the gears and yet Calry Bohs never gave up the fight.

Ten minutes from time and Eoin Doherty crashed home a fine effort to give Calry Bohs some hope but any chance of a comeback was killed off with the clock ticking down when Paul McTiernan cracked home the fourth goal for the home side.

Aughanagh Celtic are now ninth on the table with one game left away to high flying neighbours Boyle Celtic, what a game that may yet prove to be.

Boyle Celtic won at home by the odd goal in three to Ballisodare Utd. The visitors took the lead in the first half courtesy of Darragh Healy. Boyle Celtic levelled five minutes into the second half with a great goal from Mick Corrigan and thirty minutes from time once again Niall Brennan was on hand to keep the dreams of a treble alive. This result was a great boost for manager Darren Hurd and his team of warriors who take on Evergreen of Kilkenny next Sunday in the FAI Junior Cup Semi Final. This is an historic day for the club and let’s hope it will be a game to remember for all the right reasons with a trip to the Aviva awaiting the victors.

Both sides were committed to an open attacking game but MCR had the upper hand and with three minutes remaining Cliffoney Celtic were down to ten men when Blair Foley received his second yellow from the match official Glen Gilmartin.
