Irish Senior squad call up for Thomas ahead of World Cup

HE has previously swam for his country and now local teenager Thomas Maher has been called into the Irish Senior Cerebral Palsy football squad.

Thomas was in Dublin recently for trials for the Irish Senior C. P. Football squad.

The squad begins training on April 9th next.

The FAI will develop the squad over the next few years.

His proud mum, Katie, told the Sligo Champion that Thomas had received a letter recently from the Irish Senior C. P. manager, explaining how he was selected.

Oisín Jordan, Team Manager, was impressed by Thomas’s performanc­es at the Internatio­nal Trial Day at the beginning of March and decided to select him for the squad with the FAI.

The squad will comprises twenty players and this number may increase or decrease over the coming months.

The players and management are preparing for the upcoming IFCPF World Cup tournament, which is being held in September.

By that stage, the squad will have been whittled down to 14, so competitio­n for places will be rife.

Thomas and his fellow squad teammates will be training regularly at the FAI’s National Sports Complex in Abbottstow­n.
