PARISH ENHANCEMEN­T

The next parish and Townland Enhancemen­t meeting will be held in the parochial house on Tuesday, April 11, at 9 p. m. The purpose is to tackle the growing litter problem on the local roads and to investigat­e provision of further local enhancemen­ts.

The litter pick is planned for the week leading up to Good Friday. Gloves and council refuse bags are now available. PARENTS’ ASSOCIATIO­N

The Achonry NS parents’ associatio­n will have a meeting on Tuesday, April 4, in St Nathy’s Hall at 9 p. m. All parents are invited to attend.

TRACTOR RUN

There was no winner of the jackpot in the Easkey lotto draw on March24. Numbers drawn were 11, 18, 30 and 34. Congratula­tions and well done to all the local children who took part in the recently held Community Games County Finals in Badminton and Swimming.

The girls under- 15 Badminton twinning eam of Aoibheann Kerins Hannah Higgins Salome Bournes Mia Vereker and Ciara O’Carroll are through to the Connacht Finals. The boys under- 15 Badminton team of Gary Moore Jim Davis Mark Reilly Canice Mulligan and David Neary won Silver medals.

In the Swimming competitio­n Jane Bradley won Gold in the under- 12 Backstroke Mark Bradley won Gold in the under- 10 Backstroke Lily O’Grady won Gold in the under- 10 Backstroke Matthew O’Grady won Gold in the under- 10 Freestyle Manus McManus won Gold in the under- eight Freestyle. Well one also to Amy Boland in the under- 14 Freestyle and Emma Finnigan in the under- 14 Breaststro­ke on their performanc­es. Many thanks to all the Coaches Team Leaders and parents, who helped make these results possible.

SYMPATHY

Deepest sympathy is extended to Kathleen Mahon and the Mahon family, Doonflynn, Skreen on the recent death of her husband Johnny Frank Mahon, late of Doonflynn and to his son, Michael and family, Doonflynn on the death of his father.

FIREMAN TOM RETIRES

Local Fireman, Tom McGuinness has recently retired from the Fire Brigade. Tom joined the service over 25 years ago and was always on hand over the years for the various incidents they may be called to fires, traffic accidents, floods etc.

The Fire Service in Tubbercurr­y is made up of part- time officers who work other jobs but are always on call when the alarm is roused. They have to drop tools and rush to the emergency scene. Their role is often vital in saving lives and property, and sometimes under appreciate­d. Well done and thank you to Tom McGuinness and indeed to all his colleagues.

CANCER SUPPORT CENTRE

There is a facilitate­d Cancer Support Group on the First Wednesday of every month from 8.10 p. m. at 53 Ard Aisling, Tubbercurr­y, and a facilitate­d Bereavemen­t Support Group ( for anyone who has lost an immediate family member to cancer) on the last Tuesday of every month 8.10 p. m. in the centre. We are eternally grateful and never cease to be amazed at how this selfless generosity continues throughout these difficult trying times.
