IT‘ liaising’ withlocal Gardaí

-

IT Sligo Student Support Services and the Students Union have been providing support for the family and friends of a student who is currently critically ill in hospital.

A statement said:“The Institute is committed to providing a safe, healthy and welcoming learning environment for its students and staff. With a full- time student population of 4,000 students, incidents do occur from time to time. IT Sligo provides a range of education initiatives and campaigns through both the SU and student support services to underpin the Institute’s prevention, awareness and intervention efforts around the use of drugs and alcohol. The Institute liaises closely with Gardaí on a regular basis and is aware of their concerns regarding the apparent increase in drug activity in the region. Where possible, the Institute is doing everything it can to facilitate Gardaí in dealing with this drug activity. The Institute recognises this is a societal issue and one which it is determined to play its part in– in terms of awareness and prevention initiatives to ensure its students stay safe and healthy.”
