CELTIC v Linfield…….. now there’s a mouth- watering prospect. And it’s happening in Sligo! The intriguing fixture is just one of 16 top class matches featured in the SLIGO SUPER CUP, the elite 9v9 under- 12 tournament, which takes place at Sligo Showgrounds from April 28th- 30th. Another stand- out clash is the meeting of Celtic and hosts, Sligo/ Leitrim, which takes place on the opening Friday night.

In all, eight top academy teams from across Ireland and the UK will compete for the inaugural Super Cup, with Sheffield Wednesday, Club Northern Ireland and Donegal Schoolboys League among the favourites.

Hosted by Sligo Rovers and the Sligo/ Leitrim Schoolboys League, the tournament is generating huge interest, with supporters from across Ireland and abroad already booked into local accommodation as they plan to spend the Bank Holiday weekend in Sligo. The tournament’s main sponsor is Pet Stop Discount Warehouse & Fuel Centre, Carraroe Retail Park, Sligo, whose owner, John McKeon, is thrilled to be associated with the event. “We are always anxious to support worthy local projects, and the Sligo Super Cup appealed to us because of its commitment to promoting healthy activity amongst young people, its cross- border involvement and its volunteering element.

“As a keen soccer follower, I’m delighted that the tournament will showcase Sligo’s capability to host such a prestigious international event,” John explained.

Tournament Director, Packie Lynch, busily putting last minute preparations in place, is delighted to be partnering with a key local business as main sponsor. “John has a great track record in supporting worthy local causes, and his generosity has been a terrific boost to our efforts to make the inaugural Sligo Super Cup an event to remember.

“We have been very fortunate in attracting generous support from a wide variety of sponsors, and this certainly helps to make our job much easier than it would otherwise have been”, Packie said.
