Busy underage season for GAA
THE minors finished their league campaign off at the weekend just coming up short against Galway who finished the campaign unbeaten. Sligo next face Leitrim in the Connacht Semi Final.
The leagues got underway at the weekend at divisions 1,2 and 3.
At all levels from underage to senior the club scene is now in full swing.
The 2017 championships draw took place in the Belfry as teams now can plan for the summer as every team will feel they have chance of winning the senior, intermediate or junior championship depending on what championship they may be in.
Dates for the Martin Donnelly Inter Provincial Wheelchair Hurling/ Camogie League are fixed with the first game a Connacht Fixture in Ballinamore, Leitrim on Saturday 29th April.
The second game in Leinster on Saturday 24th June, and third game in Tralee on 26th August and final League game in Ulster on date tbc.
The Martin Donnelly Wheelchair Hurling / Camogie Championship Finals are to be held in Knocknarea Arena Sligo I. T. on October 14th 2017.
The introduction of Wheelchair hurling ensures that our great games can be enjoyed by both able bodied and people with a disability, alike.
ISSSC: Irish Special Schools Sports Council Coaching in St Josephs School Ballytivnan to begin in mid- April 17 with support from Calry St Josephs GAA Club and Sligo Coaching & Development committee.
There are plans for Provincial teams with players from Special Schools to travel to Portlaoise in May for a training day and to travel to Croke Park in Sept for the Provincial finals.
Sligo GAA is organising ‘’ Have a Go Day’’ Saturday 13th May in COE Scarden along with Coaching / Development Committee. ‘’ Have a go day’’ or ‘’ Come & Try’’ will provide coaching and game practice in Gaelic Football, Hurling, Camogie, Handball and Rounder’s for all players, and all people are welcome to attend and especially new people to the area.
Sligo Co Board is having a launch of all their activities for 2017 and present the list of activities to the Sligo Volunteer committee at a Launch event in Scarden on Wednesday April 12th 17.
Sligo GAA is one of the largest organisations in Sligo that depends on volunteers to deliver its large programme of events and will mark the Sligo EVC 2017 by organising a number of additional events hich will be announced closer to dates.
Sligo GAA is very proud of all volunteers giving selflessly of their time and effort for the youth and young adults of their Clubs and community.
2017 gives us a great opportunity to honour, recognise and acknowledge the Club volunteers. Each club is to honour their committed volunteers in their own way if they wish.
The Co Board intends to honour two volunteers from each Club at the County Senior football final on Sunday 15th October 17.
Clubs are requested to nominate two current and active members who epitomise and reflect the ethos and characteristics of a committed club volunteer. The names of the two volunteers to be with the Co Secretary by 1st Sept 17 and should include a citation and photograph of each, which will be included in the special match programme for the County Final. The volunteers will be honoured at the County Senior Football and presented with a special scroll to mark their volunteer work.
A letter will be issued to Clubs / Units explaining the initiative and requesting the information in the next week, and your cooperation is expected. The Easkey GAA Club are doing outstanding work in the promotion and development of GAA rounders. Any Club interested in starting a Rounders team please contact Claire Maguire from Easkey GAA.
