‘ Victory for community’ as library returns to full time weekly hours
There was good news last week for the communities of Ballymote and Tubbercurry as news emerged that libraries in both towns would be returning to full- time hours after a period of rotating hours.
“We kept the pressure on to keep the library open after there were fears last year that it would close,” said Councillor Jerry Lundy.
“This is a victory for Teach Laighne and for the community of South Sligo,” he added.
Cllr. Lundy said the library in Tubbercurry is of huge importance to the town.
“This is a hive of learning for the young and old. There’s great internet access, there’s a big stock of books, wonderful staff and it’s a beautiful building.
“In a town like Tubbercurry, the second biggest in Sligo, it would be a scandal if the library hours were reduced let alone closed full- time.
“The people here are thrilled,” he added.
The Opening Hours are as follows: Tuesday 12noon- 7: 00pm Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 9: 30am- 5: 00pm Saturday 9: 30am to 1: 30pm For more details contact 071 9111705 or www. sligolibrary. ie
