THOMAS NORMANLY R. I. P.

The recent death occurred of Thomas Normanly, late of Coolrecuill, Tourlestrane, after a battle with illness borne with great courage and dignity. In his mid40’ s, Thomas was a well loved and respected member of the Tourlestrane and South Sligo Community, and was involved in many aspects of the Tourlestrane area community and society development over the last 10 years.

He had taken over the running and management of their excellent farm at Coolrecuill which had been built up by his father and mother, Tommy and Nuala, and he continued to develop it further. He was an excellent well informed farmer who was always willing to share his knowledge and experiences with others.

As a teenager and young adult, he wore the Tourlestrane GAA jersey with pride and represented the club at all levels, winning a senior County Championship in the mid- 90’ s. In most recent years, he was involved in underage coaching with the girls’ teams and enjoyed this role thoroughly.

His remains reposed at the Coen funeral home and at home where many hundreds of people called to pay their respects. Removal took place to St Attracta’s Church, Tourlestrane and burial was in Rhue Cemetery.

Tommy is survived by his loving wife, Marie, adoring children Pádraig, Brian, Mariah and Lauren, parents Tommy and Nuala, brothers Pat and Michael, sisters Geraldine and Patricia and many cousins and great friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. May he rest in peace.

KENNETH MATTHEWS R. I. P.

The recent unexpected death occurred of Kenneth Matthews, late of Kilcummin, Cloonacool. In his early 60’ s, Kenneth was a native of Ballyara, Tubbercurry and was the youngest in his family, and son of the late Harry and Betty. He grew up on the farm located where St Attracta’s Community School now stands. Over his lifetime, Kenneth was involved in various farming enterprises in the Cloonacool area.

Pre- deceased by his parents, Sister Ivy and Brother Henry, he is survived by his wife Margaret, daughter Leeoina, sons Ashley, Kenneth and Shevlin, grandchildren, sister Joan, brother Stephen, in laws, nieces and friends, all to whom sympathy is extended. OLD RAILWAY STATION

Great tidying work has been done over the last few weeks by two lads on the environs of the old Railway Station at the Ballina road junction in Tubbercurry. The work has been carried out under the auspices of the Tubbercurry Tidy Towns Committee and a big thank you is extended to all involved.

Hopefully a lot more tidying and upgrading will be required in the near future if the proposed Greenway is given the go ahead. To this end, we need Sligo County Council and the Railway authorities to come together to give their approval.

When we see an old similar type disused rail line in Co. Waterford opened recently as a walking/ cycling Greenway, one wonders why it cannot also happen here in Co. Sligo. Over to you please, Sligo County Council….. EASTER THEMED WORKSHOP

This workshop takes place on Wednesday, April 12, from 11 a. m. to 2 p. m. in Corsallagh/ Cloonacool. A morning full of ac- tivities is guaranteed.

During the workshop, we will take a walk through the awaking nature of a rural country side. Engage with farm animals, pick wild herbs and wild material. Enjoy a healthy lunch, colour eggs and arrange an Easter themed arrangement.

You will take away with you lots of ideas, your own coloured eggs, Easter baking ideas and most of all your own Easter arrangement. Limited places available. For booking and more information call Martina, 087 2403005.

SPEED ON THE BY- PASS

Concern has been expressed from many quarters about speeding traffic on the town bypass which has a 50km limit. Tubbercurry Active Retirement Association recently wrote to Sligo County Council with over 50 signatures from their members about this. It is expected monitoring and signage will be erected shortly to slow traffic.

MOUNTAIN ROAD

Great work is on- going at Mountain Road, Tubbercurry where two different projects are under construction. The children’s playground is having a major overhaul done and will hopefully be opened within a few weeks.

A new all- weather Astro- Turf play area is being laid at present beside the Real Tubber Soccer Pitch, and this will accommodate various activities including soccer and basketball. It is being done in such a way that it can be extended at a later stage, as finance allows. These are two badly needed facilities for our children and youngsters, and a big well done is extended to the committees involved.
