The Sligo Champion

Strandhill contestant all set to cook up a storm on BBC’s Masterchef this week

-

Strandhill Road native Shauna Kelly will compete on BBC’s Masterchef this week.

The mother- of- one was encouraged to apply for the show by friends last July and eventually reached the final 64 out of 25,000 people who entered.

“It’s a dream come true. It’s a passion that I had from a very young age and I’ve always been cooking from home and thrown the odd dinner party,” she told The Sligo Champion from her home in Hampstead, North West London.

It was a long process to get on the show. Shauna applied online first, then went through several phone interviews before being chosen as one of 300- 400 contestants who had to bring in a dish and present it to camera in front of producers.

The series was filmed before Christmas and is ready for broadcast.

Originally trained as a physiotherapist, Shauna spent 12 years working for Saatchi and Saatchi advertising. She has since started her own catering business ‘ Homemade Hampstead’ to work around her 5- year- old son Jack’s schedule. “I go into time- poor people’s homes and batch cook dinners for them,” she said.

Shauna appears in the 8th heat of Masterchef this Thursday ( April 20th) at 8pm.
