Family seek information on father’s Sligo born mother for family history

-

THE daughter of a Sligo native says she is keen to find information on her father’s family.

Teresa Coll, who lives in Scotland, is seeking information on her father’s mother.

Her father, John Charlton, was born in 1929. He was born in Ballygawley to a Frances Charlton before he moved to Donegal and eventually moved on to Glasgow.

It’s understood that Mr. Charlton was born out of wedlock and given up for adoption. He was christened a catholic, but his mother Frances only converted to Catholicism well after his birth.

It is believed that Ms. Charlton later moved to Glasgow and got married.

“I’m just very curios to find out the story behind my father’s family. We’re doing our family history and there’s a chunk missing,” said Mrs. Coll.

“At the age of leaving school, the family he was with said there was funds for him to go on to education, but he didn’t want it. I wonder if those funds were left by his family,” she added.

“He never talked about it but he had no bad memories from his childhood,” she said.

Anyone with information can contact teresacoll@ hotmail. co. uk.
