Library vacancies “will be filled”

-

THE Chief Executive of Sligo County Council Ciarán Hayes has said he’s “hopeful of the retention of all library services in the future.”

He told Councillor Chris MacManus that the “indication from the Department is that future vacancies will be filled.” Two staff members in Enniscrone are due to retire in May and August.

Cllr MacManus had asked for a report on the current staffing levels for libraries in Sligo, Tubbercurry, Ballymote, Enniscrone and the Reference and Local Studies library.

“I welcome that Tubbercurry and Ballymote are back up to their full compliment. I see the library as a cornerstone of an egalitarian society. Have we any proposals in situ that when the next time funding becomes available we can apply?” he asked.

County Librarian Donal Tinney told member that they intended making fresh funding applications for capital funding towards the end of the year. Cllrs Thomas Healy and Joe Queenan supported Cllr MacManus.
