Business signs on N17 need planning

-

BUSINESS signs erected along the N17 which do not have planning permission are running the risk of being removed.

That’s according to Director of Services Tom Kilfeather who was answering a query on the matter from Cllr Jerry Lundy.

“A number of businesses from Bellaghy to Collooney have been told to take down some of their business signs, even if they’re on private property,” Cllr Lundy told the meeting.

He said one businessman had already noticed a drop in business since he took down the signs.

“We should ask the TII ( Transport Infrastructure Ireland) to relax the rules and let businesses advertise their businesses,” he said. “These signs bring business to Sligo. If they have to remove them, business will be lost and in turn jobs will be lost,” he said. Mr Kilfeather said that any business sign on a National road needed planning permission in accordance with TII and Council.
