Ballymote man goes viral with his best man’s speech

-

The best man speech at weddings has always been something that is highly anticipated.

Nerves can take hold as the best man is expected to deliver a clever, witty, funny and emotional speech. But one Sligo man has set the stakes high for all best men that will follow after him.

Ballymote native, Gary Milmoe delivered a speech to trump all speeches with his five- minute performance.

He arrived home from Australia for his best friends Adrian’s wedding to partner Fionnuala and decided to get creative with the traditional best man’s wedding speech.

He stole the show with a performance inspired by Irish music legends Luke Kelly and Christy Moore and has gone viral online racking up 19,000 views.

“I’m as nervous as hell,” he said, just before he started.

Gary said it took him a while to write his speech at the wedding of his best friend Adrian to his now- wife Fionnuala.

He joked that he had to edit the speech down to the point of nothing remaining, due to most of his stories being unrepeatable. Speaking to the Sligo Champion from her honey moon in Cuba, newlywed Fionnuala said that Gary and Adrian have been best friends since they were four and are ‘ partners in crime’.

“Brothers from another mother’ they always joke about,” she added.

Gary has been living in Australia for the last decade and is married in Brisbane.

“He came home from Australia to be at our wedding and he did a cracker of a speech song and surprised us all with a song he wrote himself ” she said.
