Championship fever
WITH three locals reaching the quarter- finals of the West of Ireland, the atmosphere in Rosses Point yesterday afternoon was undoubtedly electric.
Gary McDermott, David Brady and Barry Anderson were all competing in the quarter- finals of the prestigious contest at the time of going to print. “We’re have a tremendous Champion- ship. Having three locals at this stage is something else and looking at the crowds out there, people keep arriving.
“There has been lots of people tweeting us too and we have Ryder Cup golfer Des Smith come along this afternoon too from Co Louth,” David said.
“We had great matches between David Brady and Alan Lowry, Shane’s brother on Sunday. Alan’s parents were here for that, while Barry Anderson beat Alex Gleeson as well. Last year’s winner, Jonathan Yates, went out on the first round,” David said.
“We expect more crowds tomorrow ( Tuesday) for the semi- finals and the winner should be known by 5.30pm,” David added.
