The Sligo Champion

Sligo AC athletes do well in Kilmovee

- BY DAVID KEARINS

A large Sligo AC contingent made the trip on Easter Saturday to participate in the 8th Annual Kilmovee 10K.

Aside from a stiff swirly breeze, conditions were relatively good for the 518 participants. The opening 1500M had the surreal sight of two bolting horses joining the race resulting in some runners either slowing or stopping to let them pass.

The race winner in a new course record of 32: 00 was Gary Thornton ( GCH). The overall female winner was Lucy Brennan in 39: 30 with Mari Johnston third with 41: 14. Meanwhile Catherine Bradley was F50 winner with 46: 55.

There was a good sprinkling of Sligo AC members throughout the field. David Kearins finished 15th in a time of 38: 51 with Bill Carty 21st in 40: 20. Conal Sexton crossed the finish line in 24th with his 40: 37 and Brian McDonagh was 29th in 41: 13. Ciarain Kilcul- len was 30th in 41: 18 while Joe Davey’s 43: 12 earned him a place in the Top 50. There were good runs also by Brendan McCarrick in 47: 14, Aishling Davey 46: 47 and Amanda Kilcullen in 49: 15.
