Gaelscoil boys’ late rally in 7s final
ARDKEERAN 3- 6 GAELSCOIL Chnoc na Ré 5- 4 ON a cold wet evening in Collooney, two talented and skilful teams produced an entertaining and inspiring game of football. The teams were very evenly matched with just one point separating the sides at half time.
James Foley and Sam Touhy of Ardkeeran worked well together to produce an attack and a goal effort from Owen Elding was brilliantly saved by Gaelscoil’s John MacAodh.
A superb goal by Ardkeeran’s James Touhy saw him chip the goalkeeper. This was followed up with great pointed efforts from Ciaran Kenny and Owen Elding. But a trio of first half points and a goal from Ronan O’Niallain and Shea O’Neill saw the Sligo town side ahead by one at the break.
Ardkeeran started the second half well with their goalkeeper Brian Dwyer superbly saving a number of efforts.
His hard work in goals was backed up by his strong defensive team.
Goals from Touhy and Foley and great attacking play from Kenny made it look as if was going to be Ardkleeran’s day. However, this was not to be. Three goals in quick succession from well worked moves saw the Gaelscoil move clearly ahead towards the final whistle.
