Shauna shines in MasterChef show

Strandhill native Shauna Kelly is storming ahead on MasterChef on BBC1 this week.

The Sligo native “seriously impressed” judges in the last round of heats last Thursday and Friday nights with dishes such as Risotto Nero and panseared scallops with squid ink tuile for garnish.

She made it through to the Quarter Finals on Friday night where she served up an aubergine dish.

“It’s been crazy. My phone has been going non- stop,” she told The Sligo Champion from her home in Hampstead, London, where she’s been living for the past 12 years.

Cllr Chris MacManus wished her continued success at yesterday’s meeting of Sligo Municipal District.

“She’s knocking the socks off them on MasterChef. It’s indicative of the rich gastronomic tradition here,” he said.

Belsize Park in London have asked Shauna to join The Juni- per Tree to cook the dishes that so impressed the MasterChef judges last week.

“The public will get to taste the food I cooked in the heats,” she said.

While the series was filmed last Fall, last week was the first time Shauna got to hear the judges’ comments. She said going through the Quarter Finals was an “incredible” experience.

“There were a lot of nerves, you see hands shaking. But it was good fun and nice to watch it with my partner and son with a glass of champagne. My parents watched it at home in Sligo so I hope I made them proud,” she said.

MasterChef broadcasts Wednesday- Friday at 8pm.
