Tourlestrane win by two

-

TOURLESTRANE secured an impressive win in the Fureys Coaches SFL Division Three last Saturday evening when they accounted for Enniscrone/ Kilglass at Tourlestrane. Though Tourlestrane’s second outfit is a youthful side, they were full value for their win here due to an excellent second half performance, after Enniscrone/ Kilglass saw their six- point half- time lead evaporate.

The decisive period of the game came shortly after half- time when, having kicked four successive wides early in the half, Enniscrone/ Kilglass forward Shane Hargadon saw his penalty saved by Adam Broe – minutes later, Tourlestrane had the ball in the net at the other end after Jon Durkin dispatched raised a green flag. Early on, however, Enniscrone/ Kilglass dominated an established a 0- 9 to 0- 3 half- time advantage with Shane Hargadon, Michael Moyles and Brian Coleman among their first half point scorers. Though largely in control in the middle third, Tourlestrane struggled and Rian Kennedy’s two frees along with a Ciaran Walsh point were all they had to show for their first half efforts.

After the restart, Tourlestrane took over, with Kennedy slotting over three second half points and Durkin’s goal coming midway through the half to ignite their challenge.

A depleted Enniscrone/ Kilglass were quickly on the back foot, and through carelessness in front of goal they only added two second half points, as Tourlestrane dented the visitors’ promotion ambitions. THE launch of this year’s Hurling u- 17 Challenge cup took place last week in Dublin where Sligo’s and Coolera/ Strandhill hurler John Cosgrove was on hand to represent Dathi Hand’s side.

The teams Sligo will face this year are as follows, Mayo, Roscommon, Galway 3, Donegal, Kildare 2. The opening game is 3rd May in Connacht Centre of Excellence against Galway 3.

The hurling Féile took place on Sunday where Benbullen Gaels ran out the winners and they will be joined by Naomh Eoin at this year’s Féile competition, well done to both sides.
