Lory Meagher Cup Round One

THREE goals from Kevin Gilmartin ensured Sligo got off to winning start in this year’s Lory Meagher Cup.

In the opening half, Ronan Crowley was inspired form for Lancashire as he raised 13 white flags over the course of the match, eleven of which came from frees as he played big part in his side’s early lead as went in front 0- 7 - 0- 4 before a brace of goals from Gilmartin.

The Lancashire hopes of winning their first match were dealt blow with the sending off of Daire Maskey.

Points from youngster Joe McHugh and Keith Raymond ensured Sligo were level at the break, 2- 7 - 0- 13.

Sligo got the first three points after the restart but two points from Crowley had his side back within a single point.

This was as close as they got as Sligo raised two more goals .

Goals came from Eamon Kilgannon and Gilmartin’s third ensured Sligo went on to win by nine points.

THE 5th annual Easkey Castle 10k and 10 miler took place on Sunday.

There were good performanc­es all round, with two Sligo AC winners. In the 10 Miler, Emmett Dunleavy was the clear winner in 52: 20.

North Sligo AC’s Donal Egan was 2nd in 57: 27. In the ladies race, Lucy Brennan was 4th overall and the leading Lady in 1: 03: 16.

Meanwhile in the 10K race, Richard Gorman came home as the winner in 33: 05 with North Sligo’s Garry Gallagher 2nd in 37: 06.
