COOLERA/ STRANDHILL

Junior Girls The Junior Ladies’ second round tie with Owenmore Gaels ended with defeat on Easter Sunday. Despite some strong performances from Ruth Goodwin and Ciara Redmond in midfield we just were not strong enough to cope with a more experienced opposition. GAA Cúl Camps 2017 Online registration is now open for our Cúl Camp which will be held at Scarden from July 3rd- 7th. Check www. gaa. ie/ kelloggsculcamps for details, or alternatively contact Tommy Cradock on 0877866845. These camps are always popular and represent great value for money with gear and bags included in the price.

The Coolera/ Strandhill U12 hurlers played their first match of the season against Benbulben Gaels last Tuesday in Ransboro. The more experienced Benbulben edged out winners. Team: Ultan Bree, Tadgh Dogget, Aidan Moran, Oisin Whelan, Shane O’Loughlin, Kevin Davitt, Oisin Hennessy, Thomas Kinane, Jack Feeney, Cathal Gilligan, Mark Keane, Ronan Adams, Aidan O’Loughlin and Cathal Hughes.

The under 14 girls played their first league game of the season against St. Molaise Gaels on Tuesday 18th of April in Grange.

St Molaise took the lead early in the second half and despite courageous efforts our girls were unable to get the goal required to win the match. Overall it was a good performance with lots of positives, not least of which was the performance in particular of goalkeeper Susanna Garcia who was making her debut for the club.

Our U8 had their first outing against St. Marys on Friday 14th in Scarden. It was fantastic to have 3 teams lining out and well done to all. Their next match will be at home to Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point tomorrow ( Wed. 26th April).

Our u14 boys got their first win of the campaign with victory over Tubbercurry at Kilcoyne Park last Friday.

Our minor side played Coolaney/ Mullinabreena at home on Thursday in round three of the league. In what was a hard fought victory, a battling, hard working display was needed from the lads who had to overcome a deficit before winning 3- 05 to 0- 10. A Seán Coggins goal just before half time started the comeback and a disciplined defensive laid the foundation for the win, setting up some great attacking movements. Every player played his part and management can be extremely happy with every player’s attitude and desire to work hard. Next up is a local derby away to St Mary’s on Thursday at 7pm. All support is appreciated. U14 Girls Féile We brought a somewhat depleted squad to Templeboy to take part in the LGFA Féile on Saturday. Despite this, the girls acquitted themselves well, losing to group winners Eoghan Rua, but ending with a very good win over St. Farnan’s.

Our annual Musical Treat takes place on Sunday May 21st at 7.30pm in Star of the Sea Church, Ransboro. This year we are delighted to have Eurovision winner Charlie McGettigan, Eleanor Shanley, Kieran Quinn and Sandy Kelly providing the entertainment, as well as some exciting young local talent. Tickets are just € 15.00 and are available from committee members.
