COMMUNITY GAMES
Castleconnor were well represented at the Community Games County Swimming finals held in a very packed Regional Sports Centre Sligo on March 16. 14 competitors ranging in age from under- eight to under- 16 took to the waters in highly competitive swimming competitions surrounded by family and friends who had travelled to support them.
Taking part were the following: Finnan Gavin, Ava Hallinan/ Reape ( U- 8); Kyle Sexton, Ben Cawley, Blathnaid Carr, Amy Naughton ( under- 10); Conor McAloon, Áine Donegan, Ailish Quinn ( under- 12); Seán Donegan, Orin Canavan, Elisha Gallagher, Moya Canavan ( under- 14); Eilidh MacPhee ( under- 16).
Despite stiff competition all the swimmers performed exceptionally well with several placed in the medal selection while others qualified out of their heats and semifinals. Eilidh MacPhee added another medal to her swimming collection when she secured the silver medal in her event. She was unfortunate not to claim the gold, finishing a mere second or two behind the winner. Seán Donegan also put in a great performance and comfortably swam his way in his event to take home a silver medal. In addition Blathnaid Carr, Conor McAloon and Moya Canavan were worthy recipients of bronze medals.
In all it was a very successful event for Castleconnor and the Community Games committee would like to extend congratulations to all the competitors on their performances.
