Father and son were so close they were more like brothers
ONE of the many heartfelt tributes on Facebook to Christopher and Sean Harte came from The Snug Bar at Stephen Street, Sligo.
In a post on Sunday its owners said: “Yesterday, we woke up to the devastating news that we had lost two great characters.
“Sonny and Sean had become great friends with everyone in the Snug over the years and it’s very hard to believe we won’t be filling a pint or boiling the kettle for either of these two great people again.
“Our staff are devastated, our customers are devastated and it’s a fitting tribute to hear so many good stories told yesterday about the two men.
“The only comfort anyone can take is that they were always like ‘ two peas in a pod’ and thankfully they are both still together.
“Sonny and Sean you will be missed dearly and thank you for all the great memories you have left us and may you both rest in peace.
“Our sincere condolences to the extended Harte family at this very difficult time.”
Sean’s brother Michael said they were more like “great brothers than father and son”.
“One would be lost without the other,” he told the Irish Independent.
“We still don’t know what caused the fire. We heard it started in a vacant flat below them but we don’t know for sure yet.
“When the fire brigade went in my dad was hugging Sean. It’s an awful tragedy because dad had been helping Sean shift his stuff to his house earlier.
“Sean was going to move out of the flat,” he added.
“We’re all heartbroken. The town is in shock. Both dad and
Sean were very well known in the town.”
Christopher and Sean were keen supporters of GlasgowCeltic. Sean also played football locally and was a member of the MCR team in the past.
Sonny Harte was a plasterer by trade and had a deep interest in athletics some years ago, running many marathons.
Sean was employed in the bar and nightclub door security business.
