Reader’s Voice series visits Ballymote library
Ballymote Library welcomed Irish Author Claire Kilroy as part of a nationwide series called the Reader’s Voice.
The Reader’s voice involves a series of author interviews taking place in six different libraries across the country, celebrating the reader, local libraries and outstanding Irish writing.
Last Thursday Ballymote Library was one of 6 in the country that took part in the event where Dublin Author Claire was interviewed about her novel, ‘ The Devil I know’.
Louise Mc Grath, Librarian at Ballymote Library said the experience to talk one on one with the author was brilliant: “We were delighted to bring together book clubs from Sligo Town, Tubbercurry and of course Ballymote Library to discuss the book with Anne and Claire Kilroy, whose novel ‘ The Devil I know’ was chosen for discussion.
“It was a great night, lots of great conversation and a great insight into the mind of the writer – it’s not every day that the book club gets to ask ‘ so did that character know the other character was having an affair with his wife’ and actually get a conclusive answer.”
The event is an initiative of Anne Enright, the Laureate for Irish Fiction and the Arts Council of Ireland, the Sean O’Rourke show on RTE Radio and Libraries Ireland.
The events were also streamed live on Facebook and are discussed on the radio show.
Speaking about the series, Laureate for Irish Fiction Anne Enright said: “The Irish readership is the most loyal - and the most silent - in the English- speaking world. The Readers’ Voice is a celebration of book clubs and libraries, a small way of giving back to the audience that has sustained the Irish tradition over the last many decades.”
