-

A 35- year- old man was arrested after he was banging on the door of a house at 1.55am and was verbally abusive to Gardaí who arrived on the scene.

Gardaí were called to Bruach Na hAbhainn, Coolaney on April 1st after a call from a woman who didn’t wish to let Brian Duke of Cois Abhainn, Coolaney in. He was banging on the door shouting to be let in but refused to go and called Gardaí abusive terms.

The woman of the hosue said she didn’t want Duke there who was subsequently arrested. Inspector Donal Sweeney said he had 16 previous convictions.

Mr Tom McSharry, solicitor ( defending) said the defendant was at the house of his partner at the time. He acknowledges that he might have a problem with alcohol.

Duke had been working a long week as an electrician and had gone out and consumed a large amount of alcohol. He had the highest regard for the Gardaí. Judge Kevin Kilrane remarked would anyone blame the woman for locking him out given the condition he was in.

“He would want to watch himself otherwisde he will find himself in Castlerea.”

Duke was fined € 400 for failing to comply with the direction of a Garda.
