Councillors lobby Minister to save local MABS offices

SOCIAL Protection Minister Leo Varadkar is to be lobbied by the Council not to rush the closure of some Money Advice and Budgeting Service ( MABS) centres or reduce Citizens Information Service ( CIS) centres around the country.

Councillors Tom MacSharry and Seamus Kilgannon made the call. “Many people who use the CIS centres are socially excluded,” said Cllr MacSharry. “As one of the many solicitors who offer services there on a Monday night, I’ve seen the number of people who need it - it’s an invaluable service they provide,” he said.

Cllr Kilgannon said “it would be a sad situation if those services were to be regionalised.”
