-

THE lack of enough loading bays in Sligo town is costing some business owners almost € 10,000 per year. Local Fine Gael member and Parliamentary Assistant to Tony McLoughlin TD, Blaine Gaffney is calling for an open discussion to begin between the business community and Sligo County Council about the issue.

Over the past month he says he been contacted by a number of concerned local businesses, frustrated over the lack of loading- bays available in Sligo town at peak times.

“One Sligo business owner explained to me how his operational costs for parking in Sligo town when his employees cannot access a loading- bay on certain streets will on average cost him almost € 10,000 per year. This is a large amount of money for a local business to have to pay considering the fact that this is on top of the commercial rates which he is already paying to Sligo County Council,” said Gaffney.

He called on all the business in Sligo who feel that this particular issue needs to be addressed to highlight the issue “when the opportunity arises to do so.”
