As part of Sligo’s designation as European Volunteering Capital 2017 the Volunteer Centre host monthly meet up’s in various locations around Sligo.

Ciara Herity, Manager of Sligo Volunteer Centre said the meetings give a chance for the volunteers to share their experience with others who may be starting their volunteer journey.

She said: “These meetings are an informal chat, to introduce yourself and talk about your experience as a package.

“We see a lot of people coming into the centre who want to volunteer to enhance their career prospects and it gives you the opportunity to gain skills and it is a very valuable tool for a pathway to employment.”

“The volume of people signing up to volunteer is up 25 percent on the same time last year,” added Ciara.

Sarah Callahan has been volunteering for more than ten years and believes it is a great way to further your career.

“When I moved back to Ireland I found it was a great way to meet people. I enjoyed giving back my time and energy.

“I think if people have a bit of time then why not volunteer. It helped me in this way and now I can share my experiences.”
