Harpsrunoutwinners

-

THIS Division 1 clash in a cool Hazelwood on Saturday evening saw Eastern Harps come away as convincing winners. They went into an early three point lead on five minutes when Declan Hannon found the net and from here Shane King’s men never looked back. Points from Aaron Flynn and Damien O’Boyle had them back with a single point before Tony Taylor scored a fine point from play which was followed with another from captain Michael Clarke. Harps leapt into a five- point lead with only twelve minutes played when Colin McGill passed to Fiachra Gorman who found the net again for the visitors.

A Patrick Woulfe free and a point from play through Darragh McConnon brought Calry back to three points on 16 minutes. The hard- working Taylor pointed a free after being dragged down and this was followed by two for Calry, through Michael Flynn and captain Damien O’Boyle.

Another free from Taylor had four between the sides at the break, Harps leading by 2- 5 to Calry’s seven points.

It was the visitors who got the opening score of the second half, when Shane O’Grady send over a fine score four minutes in.

Another Flynn point reduced the gap to four which was cancelled out by another Gorman point for Harps. Taylor was on target again from play on 40 minutes before Bryan McGovern pointed for Calry with a fine effort.

Four unanswered points in the space of three minutes for Harps, from Conor Higgins, Hannon, McGill and Taylor, had them nine in front with 15 minutes to go as they were cruising. Ciaran Stenson scored a good point from play for Calry but Harps were winning possession easily and half- back Kevin Cryan got his name on the scoreboard in the 47th minute after a Taylor pass.

A minute later and Calry found the net, good work by Flynn but they needed another as time was running out.

Further scores from a Taylor free and Mickey O’Grady was enough for the visitors as a late free from Woulfe wasn’t enough to half the Harps advantage. The second half saw an improvement from the home side as they hit 1- 4 to Harp’s ten points but the two goals they conceded in the opening half were to prove vital.
