Coolaney take the honours

COOLANEY/ MULLINABRE­ENA took the bragging rights after winning the final of Pole Position 2017.

The sports quiz show organised by Ocean FM and presented by Robert Fitzpatric­k has been running for the past 15 weeks, with 16 clubs from a range of sports across the Northwest taking part.

Sligo’s Coolaney/ Mullinabre­ena GAA Club emerged as the overall winners, taking the € 1000 top prize.

The team of Shane O’Brien, John Marren and Padraig McGourty defeated Eastern Harps by 42 points to 39 overall in the final.

Harps were represente­d by John O’Neill, Nicholas Murray and Brendan McHugh for the competitio­n. They had overcome St John’s, St Molaise Gaels and Bunninadde­n en route to the final, while Coolaney/ Mullinabre­ena had defeated Coolera/ Strandhill, North Sligo Athletic Club and Owenmore Gaels in progressin­g to the final.

The other clubs to take part in the competitio­n were Aodh Ruadh and Ballyshann­on Rugby Club , Manor Rangers and Calry Bohs.

County Sligo Golf Club in Rosses Point, Drumcliffe/ Rosses Point GAA club and Enniscrone/ Kilglass GAA Club also took part in the competitio­n.
